DuPont supplies UV powder coatings for high quality office furniture: first plant put into operation in Germany

The new RAY-TEC UV powder coatings for office furniture that DuPont powder coatings has supplied to Sauter GmbH (Uberlingen, Germany) since July 2002 are applied to the furniture using a new technology. Sauter has invested in this with the help of a grant of EUR 350,000 from the German government, since 100 per cent of the overspray is recycled. The new technology saves space and time: the new process takes 1-3 min at 110°C compared with 20-30 min at 140-150°C for the conventional process, and uses much less space. The finished coating is of improved quality, easily meeting the world’s strictest norms. DuPont Powder Coatings is in talks to supply its new process to other companies in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, India and Japan. The office furniture producer Schiavello (Melbourne, Australia) is to begin operating this new system at the end of 2002. The low operating temperature means that these new coatings could be used instead of liquid coatings in other industries, such as assembled parts for the automotive industry and to make metal/plastic sandwich panels for industrial insulation.
