Web site launched to help businesses manage hazardous waste, comply with legislation and save money

With the current regulatory climate creating a financial and manpower burden to UK businesses, a new website was launched this week to help businesses comply with waste legislation.

The unique BeCompliant applications and tools provide help for producers of hazardous waste, enabling them to meet compliance criteria, save money and avoid environmental incidents and fines.

The web site, www.BeCompliant.co.uk is particularly useful to small and medium-sized businesses who find it difficult to keep pace with changing legislation and who may be unaware of the personal and business risks associated with non-compliance.

By registering as a free member, users gain access to information about environmental and other hazard related legislation. The member area also includes a hazardous waste guidance section covering health and safety, chemical storage, segregation, transport, labelling and emergency planning.

By subscribing to the site, users are able to manage their waste and service provider records, produce their own consignment notes, view waste movement data and create reports for management and financial control. Furthermore, to help users with their compliance, there are comprehensive checklists that dynamically log overall progress in a visible and user friendly manner to produce a user compliance rating.

Launching the site, Phil Orford said, “Many businesses struggle to keep up to date with hazardous waste legislation, what responsibilities they have as producers of waste, what the risks and costs of non-compliance are and where they can go to for help an advice. This web site is designed to address these issues and to help users to take control of their waste management process. In doing so, they are better able to manage their disposal costs, their compliance with the legislation and importantly, to minimise the risk of fines, prosecutions and environmental incidents”.
