Italian Plaster Training Institute opens in Pennsylvania

June 17, 2009

“Veneshe Italian Plastering and Firmolux Venetian Plaster Announce the Opening of the Firmolux Northeast Training Institute for Italian Plaster Application. Courses will be Offered for Commercial Plaster Applicators, Decorative Painters and Homeowners to Learn the Ancient Techniques of Venetian Plaster Wall Finishes Using Authentic and ‘Green’ Plasters Imported From Italy.”

Lehigh Valley, PA (PRWEB) – Veneshe Italian Plastering and Firmolux Venetian Plaster announce the opening of the first Venetian Plaster Training Institute in Pennsylvania.

Lori Blomstrom, owner of Veneshe Italian Plastering, has a designed courses that range from one day beginner classes for homeowners interested in learning basic plastering techniques, to intensive two- to four-day courses for applicators trained in other Italian plaster systems to learn Firmolux materials and methods. With her years of experience working with homeowners, interior designers and builders in the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys, Blomstrom brings a high level of professional skill, training and experience to the school, which she imparts to her students.

The term “Venetian Plaster” is commonly used in the United States, for what the Italians call Decorative Stucco. Applied by hand in translucent layers, the plasters cure and harden to stone. Not to be confused with faux finishes, authentic Italian plasters are derived from a hydrated limestone powder, or grassello. Unlike the commercially available, faux products available at home improvement super stores, all-natural lime plasters imported by Firmolux are environmentally friendly, non-toxic and naturally mold-resistant. Veneshe imports all materials from Italy and uses techniques developed over centuries to stunning effect.

While she is experienced in the art of faux finishing as well as painting, Blomstrom has found that clients that may have started out requesting paint or faux finishes often choose Italian plaster when they learn about the benefits of this “green” wall finish, and experience the infectious enthusiasm and knowledge she conveys. As a woman owned and operated business, Blomstrom is one of only a small number of female certified Venetian Plaster artisans trained in Italy, and a focus on authenticity in materials and methods distinguishes her work.

In commenting on the expansion of his company's training programs, Anthony Fiocco, of Sarasota Florida and the Executive Director of FirmoLux points out that “Lori understands what most of North American architects, interior designers and clients are looking for. They want a unique surface using green products that are luxurious in look and at the same time cost effective and practical.” Mr Fiocco feels that “clients are much more sophisticated and responsible today when building and designing new homes or commercial projects, and are thrilled to discover Firmolux Italian plasters that show respect for the environment and at the same time give them a look that is appealing to their plans.”

Perfect for walls and ceilings, Venetian Plaster can be applied to any room in your home or business to stunning effect. The training and techniques of the artisan are evident in the subtle movement visible in the plaster, or what the Italians call “interest.” Depending on color, material composition, and technique, surfaces can be made to look like crumbling walls or highly polished granite and marble surfaces. Practice and skilled training are necessary to ensure that the end result achieves the desire look.

Veneshe's Venetian Plaster classes will unlock the power behind using Firmolux natural lime plaster. Blomstrom's patience and common sense approach will make even novices feel at home, and her knowledge of Firmolux Italian plaster products will make professional plaster applicators comfortable about using them. Blomstrom offers small group classes as well as private and semi private lessons. Conveniently located just a short drive north of Philadelphia and west of New York City, Veneshe's training facility is located in the scenic rolling hills of rural Pennsylvania, just minutes from the historic Delaware River.
