The first two papers have been written after the Sixth Mediterranean Social and Political Research Meeting, which was held at Montecatini Terme (16-20 March 2005) – European University Institute, Florence.

Elisabeth Longuenesse has written a paper on “Accountants and Economic Governance in a Dependant Country – Conflicting Legacies and New Professional Issues in Lebanon” according to the sociology of professions but also in relation with broader societal issues and socio-political negotiation of interests.

Janet Hesketh has proposed a text on a South African perspective of deliberation about the ways of promoting real responsibility in business.

With “Green Products and Corporate Strategy: an Empirical Investigation” Clare D’Souza, Mehdi Taghian, Peter Lamb, Roman Peretiatko propose a study, which examines the influence of multiple factors on the green purchase intention of customers in Australia. It highlights the fact that green customers rely more on personal experience with the product than the information provided by the marketer.

With “Management Discourse in the Transition from Communism to Market Economy – the case of Ukraine” Hanne S.O. Norreklit and Andriy Herasymovych analyse the ideological assumptions embedded in Ukraine management according to the transformation from a communist country to a market economy.

In “Globalisation, Reflexive Modernisation and Development: the Case of India” David Pick and Kandy Darayam demonstrate that the development path taken by India is characterised by ambiguity, contradiction and paradox.

According to Jerry Prout, the migration of socially responsible business practices to developing countries occurs because of business reasoning, not altruism.

This wide range of papers mirrors the diversity of issues related with society and business relations with a diversity of stances.
