The Laboratory For Ultrasonics

Based within the Department of Physics at Washington University in Saint Louis, the Laboratory for Ultrasonics is engaged in a wide range of activities involving ultrasound. This varies from fundamental scientific research to the development and implementation of applications in biomedicine and materials science. The group's primary interest is the physics of ultrasonic scattering from and transmission through anisotropic and inhomogeneous media. Ultrasonic tissue characterisation is another major area of research and is primarily aimed at the characterisation of myocardial and vascular tissues.

Another of the group's research concentrations is the non-destructive evaluation and quantitative characterisation of advanced composite materials. These composite materials typically include fibre reinforced polymer-based resins (e.g. graphite-epoxy) and metal matrix materials (e.g. titanium matrix composites), both of which are used extensively in the aerospace industry.

This is a very well presented site.

1999 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium & Short Courses

A nice looking but rather simple site containing information about the 1999 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium & Short Courses. As yet, only a few of the items on the contents list have active links and therefore this resource is not as useful as its potential might indicate.

Khuri-Yakub Ultrasonics Group

Khuri-Yakub Ultrasonics Group's current research interests include in situ acoustic sensors (temperature, film thickness, resist cure, ...) for monitoring and control of integrated circuits manufacturing processes, micro-machining silicon to make acoustic materials and devices such as airborne and water immersion ultrasonic transducers and arrays, and fluid ejectors, and in the field of ultrasonic non-destructive evaluation and acoustic imaging and microscopy.

This is a simple site with little useful information.

STAPLA Ultrasonics Corporation

STAPLA Ultraschall-Technik GmbH was established in 1982 and is now an international company with headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany and in Boston, Massachusetts (USA). The primary business goal of their first product was to offer a compact user-friendly welder to industry. In 1997, STAPLA was acquired by Schunk Group in Germany and together, STAPLA and Schunk has over 80 per cent of the world market share.

This site contains company information, an overview of different types of welds, ultrasonic welding of plastics and metals, structure and mode of operation of an ultrasonic metal welding unit, welding parameters, improved quality through ultrasonic metal welding, application technology and the economics of ultrasonic metal welding.

Overall this is a very informative and well designed site.
