A highly sensitive moisture analyzer/transmitter that combines online verification with quartz-crystal accuracy in a cost-competitive package has been introduced by AMETEK Process Instruments. The model 3050 OLV Moisture Analyzer provides continuous and reliable measurement of moisture in gases and vapor for petrochemical, research and other process applications.

The model 3050 OLV reads moisture levels accurately in seconds, and, in the event of a sudden drop from 1,000 to ten parts per million, it can dry-down quickly to reach 90 percent of the steady-state reading within one minute. The analyzer's quartz crystal moisture detection technology (Plate 10) has delivered consistent, reliable and accurate information in hundreds of long-term applications, the manufacturer reports.

Direct moisture measurement for speed and reliability

The unit is factory calibrated over a range of 0.1 to 2,500 parts per million by volume (ppmv) and indicates levels to 9,999ppmv – allowing users to monitor moisture levels from start-up through normal process operation. Because it measures moisture concentration directly, there is no need for the pressure or temperature compensation that is required in humidity-based moisture sensors.

An internal moisture generator allows users to confirm analyzer performance quickly on schedule or on demand by comparing sensor and system operation to conditioned reference gas that contains a known amount of moisture. This online measurement verification, exclusive to AMETEK, increases operator confidence in the moisture analyzer.

The sensor is not affected by process gas temperature, hot or cold. Its fast response to changes in moisture levels enables the unit to detect moisture problems as they happen. Its accuracy, online verification capability, and repeatability assure users that industrial gas specifications are met.

In addition to its normal, high-speed operation, the analyzer has a "gas saver" mode that reduces consumption of valuable sample gases to 150sccm. A "sensor saver" mode provides longer cell life in applications where the sample contains contaminants.

Each unit is shipped with system configuring software to set up the user's particular analyzer parameters. Optional AMETEK System 2000 software provides real-time graphical user interface for acquiring and controlling process data.
