IMI sensors high frequency ICP industrial accelerometer operates to 30kHz for gear mesh and bearing fault diagnosis

Article Type: New products From: Sensor Review, Volume 28, Issue 2.

Model 621B40 high-frequency industrial ICP® accelerometer (Figure 4) from the IMI sensors division of PCB Piezotronics (PCB®) works with online or portable monitoring systems to provide reliable, effective vibration monitoring. It operates to 30kHz, even with a magnet, and captures high frequency gear mesh faults often missed during routine route-based measurements. Owing to the sensor's high-frequency range, it is ideal for measurements on high- speed compressors, gear boxes and turbomachinery, for early detection of impending problems.

When analyzing the condition of an integral gear compressor, a technician must be able to examine gear mesh frequency and its sidebands. The harmonics of the gear mesh and natural frequency of the gears play a significant role in diagnosing potential machinery faults. A magnetically mounted Model 621B40 supplies a response to more than 30kHz, allowing a vibration analyst to obtain precise measurements of these high-frequency phenomena.
