NHBC responds to 2005 Health and Safety Summit

Keywords: Health and safety, Building sites

As the leading provider of health and safety services to the house-building industry, NHBC carried out more than 22,000 health and safety inspections on site last year. Following the findings of the recent Heath and Safety Summit, Imtiaz Farookhi, Chief Executive, NHBC, commented:

Not withstanding the great progress that the industry has made since the 2001 summit, it is critical that more is done to ensure the work at senior levels permeates down to the most junior sub-contractor to achieve the zero accident rate we are all striving for. NHBC is committed to working with the HSE and industry on the “Respect for People” code of practice to establish an ethos of health and safety that is understood and implemented all the way from the boardroom to the building site. We also particularly welcome the recent commitment of house builders for a fully carded workforce by 2007.
