Quad Systems Corporation introduced the Meridian Series (Plate 5). The new Meridian Series consists of seven fully compatible SMT assembler models that address a wide variety of production requirements. The Meridian Series specifications are expressed using the standard definitions and validation methods of the proposed IPC 9850 standard. IPC 9850 is designed to facilitate meaningful comparisons of machine speed and accuracy.

The seven Meridian Series models 1010, 1010P, 1020, 1020P, 1030, 1030P and 1050M help manufacturers achieve exceptional return on investment by providing high quality and productivity, low setup and operating costs, and effective line optimization and operation monitoring tools. The new machines add significantly to Quad's product line capability, with maximum placement rates exceeding 28,000 CPH. Quad Meridian Series assemblers accurately place both chip and IC components. They use a Windows NT operating environment and feature three-stage, soft-stop conveyors. The Meridian Series incorporates the full range of Quad electronic tape feeders and bases.
