The SMART Group Annual General Meeting
Keywords SMART, AGM
The SMART Group AGM was held at Hatfield University on 30 August (Plate 1) and the following is the Opening Address by Alan Jones, reporting on another successful year:
Since taking over as Chairman in February 1999, I am pleased to report that the SMART Group has continued to enjoy the support and help from it's member Companies and also the tremendous efforts of both the Technical and Steering Committees.
The Group is successfully partnering Reed Exhibition Companies for the Nepcon Electronics Exhibitions held in Birmingham each year and also for the Sponsorship of Nepcon West in Anaheim, California, now part of the new ETroniX in 2001.
Furthermore, the Group also negotiated the Sponsorship of the upcoming Nepcon Electronics Exhibition in Ireland, now called: EirTronics. Sponsorship has helped the Group Finances to become even more secure and allowed the Directors to divert additional funds towards such areas as employing a PR Director, designing and printing new SMART Group Literature, enhancing our smart-e-products and providing additional benefits for members at Trade Shows and Seminars.
We are now embarked on a major up-grade of our Web site and will employ a specialist who will take responsibility for the quality, and up-to-date content of our Web pages.
Plans are under way to increase our various Award Schemes, to continue to provide the very best in Technical Seminars, Workshops and by every means available to impart the necessary information being sought by our Members.
Our next major event will be the Group's participation at EirTronics Exhibition to be held at the Point Depot, Dublin on 21-22 September, and beyond that the Group is once again this year hosting our 4th biannual Brighton 2000 Conference which will be held at the Old Ship Hotel between the 21-23 November, always a "world-class" event, the programme brings together experts, industry leaders, engineers and friends.
I take this opportunity to thank all the members of the Technical and Steering Committees for their hard word and support since our last AGM and also to thank all our Members for whom without their support the SMART Group would not be the Largest Electronics Trade Organisation of its type in Europe.
