The SMTA recently honored six members at its annual meeting on September 24, during SMTA International in Chicago, Illinois. The Founder’s Award honors individuals who have advanced the SMTA as well as the electronics assembly industry.

This year’s Founder’s Award went to Tom Borkes, The Jefferson Project (Orlando, FL). Including chairing conference sessions, moderating panels, presenting at national and local events, serving on the Hutchins Grant Award Committee and serving on the SMTA Board of Directors (’94-’97), with one term as vice president of technical programs, Tom has been tireless in his support of the Association and industry.

The Member of Distinction Award went to two individuals this year: Dr Ning-Cheng Lee, Indium Corporation of America (Utica, NY), and Marie Cole, IBM Microelectronics (Hopewell Junction, NY).

Rich Freiberger, Industry Consultant (San Jose, CA), and Shen-Li Fu, President of I-Shou University (Kaohsiung County, Taiwan), each received the Excellence in Leadership Award.

As a corporate SMTA member, Solectron Corporation (Milpitas, CA) has shown outstanding support of the Association and was presented the SMTA+ Corporate Partnership Award.
