Where systems meet services: towards evidence-based information practice

Andrew Booth has 20 years' experience as a health information professional, since 1994 at the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR), University of Sheffield as Director of Information Resources and Senior Lecturer in Evidence-Based Health-care Information. His current brief is to support evidence-based health care within the University of Sheffield and Trent Region. Previously he had worked for the King's Fund, a health development charity in London, and in a variety of predominantly NHS libraries.

He is on the editorial boards of Evidence-Based Health Care, Health Information and Libraries Journal (formerly Health Libraries Review) and Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries. He chairs the Health Libraries Group Research Working Party and, in this role, contributes the quarterly "Using Research in Practice" column to the Health Information and Libraries Journal (HILJ). He organized the first Evidence-Based Librarianship Conference in Sheffield in September 2001. Subsequently, in June 2003, he chaired the International Programme Committee for the 2nd Evidence-Based Librarianship Conference in Edmonton, Canada. In the same month he co-edited (with Jonathan Eldredge) a special issue of HILJ on Evidence-Based Health Information Practice. He has co-edited and contributed to three books: Managing Knowledge in Health Services (2000) and Exploiting Knowledge in Health Services (2004) with Graham Walton and Evidence-Based Practice for Information Professionals: A Handbook (2004) with Anne Brice.
