Contemporary Strategy Analysis (3rd ed.)

Robert M. GrantBlackwellISBN 0-631-20780-5£21.99

Keywords Strategy, Competitive advantage

This book is one of the best-selling strategy texts for MBA students and has gained widespread recognition for its rigorous approach to business strategy analysis. Its principal focus is on the basic determinant of business success (competitive advantage) and it draws heavily on the concepts and theoretical insights of industrial economics.

It marries this with a recognition of the behavioral aspects of strategy including the design of organization and management systems, the setting of performance targets and the evaluation of performance. It has possibly the most comprehensive coverage of industry analysis and competitive advantage of any single book and the whole text carries a global perspective. This new edition includes a new chapter - outlining the goals and performance of the firm: shareholder value analysis and performance measurement through economic value-added and market value-added. The debate between accounting and cash-based measures of profitability is also addressed. There is extended coverage of "the process view" with a strong focus on the strategy process and its importance. The author goes on to link organizational capability and organizational knowledge to current management practices within the strategy framework. A new chapter on strategic management in a new millennium to help readers gain an overview of current trends in strategy and organization design.
