On the wireless

Getronics and Nokia have announced a global partnership to deliver e-business solutions. Getronics will integrate Nokia WAP technology with its Internet solutions for financial services as well as other industry sectors in order to provide a mobile dimension to e-business services. As a result of this partnership, Getronics will market its customer interaction and e-business solution frameworks integrated with the Nokia WAP Server in order to deliver mobile services to customers. These frameworks include the E-Bank electronic banking framework that is already being used by European banks to deliver Internet banking services. Getronics will also deliver innovative solutions for other industry sectors by integrating the Nokia WAP Server with existing intranet/extranet applications to give them a mobile dimension, supporting both consumers and travelling business staff. Examples of these innovative services include timetable and ticketing applications for transport users, mobile shopping for consumers and e-mail and information services access for travelling business users. Getronics is initially setting up wireless application protocol (WAP) Centres of Excellence in both Finland and Italy, leveraging existing experience in integrating GSM SMS technology, that will support its European subsidiaries in delivering WAP solutions to clients. The WAP is an open, global specification that empowers mobile users with wireless devices to easily access and interact with information and services instantly.
