Telindus K-NET has won a £2 million contract from ntl to design, supply and install their IP backbone, enabling the service provider to increase core network capacity for existing services, and to be in a future position to offer new IP-based connectivity services to the wholesale telecoms market. The IP backbone was launched in August 2000 and has been progressively expanding across the country. The chosen backbone solution, proposed by Telindus K-NET, is based upon state of the art Juniper M160 routers which have been designed for the core of a carrier grade IP transport network, delivering the first IP platform ever to perform at OC-192c, with aggregate throughput of 160Gbps at wire-speed. Branded as the "IP Supercore" by the service provider, the need to boost its network capacity due to the increase in demand for NTL World (NTL's free Internet access) was such that a re-design of their network was the logical step. NTL was also keen to see the migration of its ATM/SDH network to enable it to deliver a multi-service IP network to its customers. The project currently being implemented by Telindus K-NET is likely to roll out across Europe in the near future.
