In a major move into the Internet appliances market, Philips Components, a division of Royal Philips Electronics of The Netherlands, has unveiled its Net Display Modules – an entirely new line of products designed to standardise the "display-centric" Internet appliance architecture. Net Display Modules enable OEMs to quickly deliver very thin and light consumer products. Philips Net Display Modules, S10LP-NG (using National Semiconductor's Geode SC3200 system chip) and S10LP-TC (using Transmeta's Crusoe TM3400 chip), deliver in-panel system board integration, enabling the thinnest, lightest products – from Web tablets and public information displays to kiosks and thin clients. The resulting products are 80 percent complete as consumer-ready products. The module is composed of a liquid crystal display (LCD) with added functionality, such as an integrated touch screen and system board for Internet access, and software drivers to support an operating system of choice. From there, an OEM provides the industrial design, user interface, applications and base station. Philips Components is available at http://www.components.philips.com
