Abstract:Recently there has been growing criticism of public universities in relation to government funding as competition becomes stiffer in the face of other equally demanding government responsibilities. This development calls for greater austerity and strategization of plans in order to maintain standards in the process of dealing with adverse conditions. One of the key strategies in this case is diversification of funding sources, while using available resources effectively and efficiently. Libraries as heavy investors are the most hit in this respect. Thus they have to be more strategic than ever before by using all internal and external potentials/opportunities they can lay their hands on. This paper emphasizes the importance of keeping comprehensive data needed for costing services, and also highlights opportunities and strategies to be used in exploiting such opportunities.
