| Abstract: | Purpose – This article aims to tell the story of the author's son, Joe, and how, as a family, they have sought safety and security for him and themselves. Design/methodology/approach – The article draws on the author's own experiences and those of other families. Findings – A secure future for Joe (and other adults with a learning disability) depends upon families working together and ensuring good networks of people who care about what happens. Originality/value – The experiences of individuals and their families are central to an understanding of how to ensure a good life now and in the future. |
