We are pleased to be able to incorporate in this issue a set of papers dealing with a range of aspects of sustainability in universities, starting with Moore’s recommendations for creating sustainability education at the university level, followed by Rusinko’s input on the use of quality management in educating for sustainability in a business school.

The paper by Dale and Newman provides an analysis of the links between sustainable development, education and literacy offer useful insights into the interconnections between these themes. In this issue, a case for sustainability laboratories is also made, with an example from Harvard presented by Woolliams, Lloyd and Spengler. A critical analysis of the factors which influence sustainability in higher educations institutions is provided in a paper written by Velasquez et al., and the steps to be taken in forming a community partnership to enhance education in sustainability are outlined by Allen-Gil, Walker, Thomas, Shevory and Shapiro.
