Emerald is delighted to report its forthcoming partnership with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). COPE is a charity that works to promote ethical conduct in scientific research and publication. Founded in 1997, its main activity is to advise editors of academic journals on how to handle cases of suspected research and publication misconduct. In addition to the current assistance provided by Emerald, its partnership with COPE provides editors with extra support in this area by giving them access to advice from an external and impartial body of experts when breaches of publication ethics occur.

Jeffrey Braithwaite’s paper, “Lekking displays in contemporary organizations: Ethologically oriented, evolutionary and cross-species accounts of male dominance” from the Journal of Health Organization and Management, Vol. 22 No. 5, has been picked up by a number of news organizations around the world, including the Sydney Morning Herald. The paper reports on research undertaken at the University of New South Wales which found that males in the workplace can show similar "lekking" (whereby males of certain species display in order to induce females to mate) behaviours to their counterparts in the animal world. The author told the Herald: "Male managers may not be seeking sex in the workplace but they behave the same way".

Our thanks and congratulations go to former Information Management & Computer Security (IMCS) editor, Kevin Fitzgerald, who was presented with an Emerald Outstanding Service Award in appreciation of his long-standing support and consistently high contribution to the journal. Originally launched by Kevin as Computer Control Quarterly, he continued to edit the journal when it was relaunched as IMCS. Kevin retired from the journal in 2007 after 26 years' service. He and his wife, Penny, who also worked on the journal in an unofficial capacity, accepted the award at their home. Originally trained as an accountant, Kevin has enjoyed a varied career and now works as an independent consultant providing advice on information security.
