Each accreditation board member pays particular regard to their areas of subject specialism. Their decisions are based upon composite lists of the journal library holdings of leading centres of excellence, such as Stanford University and Rutherford Appleton Laboratories.

Playing a major role in ensuring user access to significant material without wasting time on the superfluous, the accreditation board ensures that coverage is not limited by the library budgeting process and that new journals are not overlooked.
