Emerald is pleased to announce the launch of the International Journal of Emergency Services (IJES) in 2012 with two issues a year. IJES provides a vehicle for the development of scholarship in the management of all emergency services – e.g. Fire and Rescue; Police; Ambulance, Coastguard.
The journal welcomes articles dealing with the theory and practice of strategic and operational management in these areas, or with the related professional and policy aspects. IJES takes a very broad view of what constitutes “management”. In keeping with the journal’s intended international scope, articles drawing comparisons between two or more jurisdictions and those offering theoretical cross-jurisdictional perspectives will be particularly welcome.
In view of the nature of the services the journal attracts interest from the social sciences disciplines particularly psychology, economists, sociologists, youth studies, criminologists, public health and political scientists, as well as from scholars interested in the management of these services. The journal also anticipates publishing papers utilizing social scientific theories, conceptual frameworks and analytical tools; aimed at academics as well as practitioners.
An interface section will be specifically designed to foster interaction between the practitioner and academic communities to encourage critical engagement with new ideas and practice. Future editions of the interface may for example, consist of a series of articles based around a contemporary or topical theme.
More information will be available soon. In the meantime, for further information, please contact the publisher of the journal, Valerie Robillard, or the Co-Editors, Vivienne Brunsden, Principal Lecturer in Psychology and Leader of the Emergency Services Research Unit, at Nottingham Trent University, UK; and Dr Paresh Wankhade, Lecturer in Organizational Behaviour at Liverpool Hope University, UK.
IJES will be part of the Emerald Industry and Public Sector subject collection.
