Clinical Governance: An International Journal aims to probe uncertainty, ask questions and explore the practical application of efforts to introduce quality assurance mechanisms into the delivery of care. The journal takes an international stance and covers key developments worldwide which can inform best practice in health care. We seek to develop both the body of knowledge about clinical governance practice and the underlying methodologies which can contribute to its development.
We have three key, international audiences: clinicians, managers, and academics and policy makers.
Clinicians (doctors, nurses and other practitioners) will find articles with clear messages and practical relevance to high quality patient care and safe, effective outcomes. Managers will discover information on the continuing development and effective application of clinical governance. The academic and policy-making audience will read examples where theoretical concepts and practical experiences have been translated into methodologies that can inform understanding, policy and practice.
The journal publishes:
• Research articles with clear implications for clinical practice or governance
• Results-focused case studies which discuss applicable problems and successes in clinical governance methodologies and techniques
• Special issues on topical themes
Regular sections in the journal include: North American or other continental Perspectives; Reviews of Effectiveness from NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination; Digests of Evidence; Digest of Drugs from the Wolfson Unit, Newcastle; and, Health Technology Assessment Executive Summaries.
The field of clinical governance, and quality standards in health care in general, is developing rapidly. Because of these rapid developments, the Editors are aware of the need to commission and publish new work as quickly as possible. New guidelines and legal issues are also featured.
