VINE started in the library community in 1971 with the acronym VINE standing for Very Informal Newsletter. It developed into a full journal looking at information and knowledge from a content management/library science perspective. The strapline “The Journal of Information and Knowledge Management Systems” was added in 2003 to emphasis a change in focus to Knowledge Management Systems in all contexts.
VINE was ranked B in the 2010 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) journal list
VINE: The journal of information and knowledge management systems recognizes the reality and need of organizations, both governmental and private, to operate in a highly interdependent world, where collaboration and knowledge/information are the predominant assets for getting things done; and, in many cases, critical for achieving competitive advantage.
The role of information technology is both systemic and preeminent in this era. There is a need for convergence, under a framework, to address the many issues and opportunities that go along with these realities. VINE is a catalyst for this integration, by attracting, and networking with, the best and brightest scholars and practitioners from around the world.
In a fast changing environment, information professionals must evaluate new opportunities to maximise performance and services. A combination of topical themed issues, well-researched, timely, unbiased articles, and practical overviews which can be applied in the workplace ensure that the journal offers lively and topical coverage of developments in the field.
