Emerald Reading ListAssist brings together some of the best subject-specific Emerald content in the form of comprehensive reading lists. It aims to facilitate both teaching and learning activities with a peer reviewed package of top quality articles taken from all of Emerald's online content.
The service is a collection of over 50 reading lists and accompanying editorials covering over 18 subjects across Emerald's portfolio areas. The editorial puts the list into context within its field and creates a dialogue with the user suggesting why and how they can use the list in their work.
Each reading list contains 60-80 Emerald articles and has data markers to help the user to refine content searches. These data markers provide an array of information on each article's practical, literary and pedagogical features, allowing for fast, easy and bespoke journal article/book chapter searches.
Created for the academic community by the academic community, Emerald Reading ListAssist aims to improve and support faculty workflow. The service also provides students with a high-quality research tool, helping to build information literacy and research skills. The rigorous academic construction of Emerald Reading ListAssist assures a high level of quality for the user; each list is peer-reviewed by subject experts as well as in-house reviewers to make sure it meets the highest quality standards.
The reading list compiled covers a broad range of library and information studies articles available in Emerald’s stable of journals in the subject area, and was compiled by Allison Kennedy, a PhD student at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.
The list uses the categorization proposed in the textbook, Librarianship: an introduction which was co-authored by Chowdhury et al, and aimed as a core text for students on courses in librarianship and information studies.
The themes go from the broad to the specific, discussing aspects of professional librarianship in terms of specific skill sets, as well as broad environmental issues related to societal influences on the profession.
"Having publication resources such as these that are offered by Emerald makes an educator’s work less burdensome."
– Joseph Sarkis, Editor – Management Research Review, Clark University, Massachusetts, USA.
"This is an excellent initiative, and should help both authors to reach the maximum possible audience, influencing the impact of their work, and researchers and students to widen their coverage of key areas of interest by using the available literature to its fullest extent."
– Nick Lee, Editor – European Journal of Marketing, Aston Business School, UK.
