"Achieving Sustainable Development through Indigenous Innovation and Entrepreneurship"
"My co-author, Norma Juma, and I are honoured and delighted to have won the prestigious Emerald award for 2010. I very much appreciate my co-author whose contribution was the suggestion to me that the research be presented for the Emerald award and for her editorial assistance. I would also like to thank my PhD supervisor’s Prof. Mary Rose and Dr. Ellie Hamilton of Lancaster University, for their significant contribution, as this investigation is culled from my on-going PhD research which has received their unflinching support.
This award represents a significant step in my dream to support and promote indigenous knowledge and entrepreneurship, which I believe is of immense value to contemporary society besides local communities. I look forward to promoting the role of indigenous knowledge and entrepreneurship in achieving sustainable development in both emerging and developed economies. Grassroots innovations by indigenous entrepreneurs have the potential to create increased value at reduced costs as well as influence the future for the better by promoting the use of ecosystem friendly indigenous solutions. Further, I hope to continue researching into ways of imbibing conventional production and consumption patterns with more sustainable and efficient indigenous practices."
