DISCUSSION: Textbooks and the Student
Abstract
I Sincerely hope that we are sufficiently aware in the colleges of our inheritance from the school teachers' work towards academic freedom. One aspect in which we have won this freedom, whether by chance or design, is in the free choice of course textbooks. We are not bound, though one sometimes still finds it, to a dutiful following of the college ‘book list’ — which is often chosen by people who will not be doing the job of teaching.
