Abstracts and papers are invited for a pre-conference. Specifically it will address the provision of lifelong continuing professional library education to practitioners by exploring the ways in which lifelong continuing professional library education is being offered and to develop new ways using new technologies to expand lifelong learning opportunities. The first conference addressed the issues and challenges of continuing education, the second conference provided a vision for the future, and the third conference discussed the competencies needed. This conference will provide practical solutions to perplexing problems. The conference is expected to attract practitioners, researchers, and advocates for continuing education.

Abstracts and papers are invited on these topics: Defining lifelong learning needs for continuing professional education; Models to expand shorter continuing education experiences into lifelong learning; Meeting the needs of information professionals for lifelong learning ­ predicting their needs; Effects of new technologies on both the need for continuing education and the use of new technologies to provide the actual opportunities; Acknowledging the differences: how to structure learning sessions so that "one size fits all" when our colleagues live in different countries and cultures, speak different languages, and have widely varying library science educational systems in their countries; Sharing continuing professional education programs across time and space. Abstracts due January 15, 2000. Papers due December 15, 2000. Abstracts should be sent electronically to Viki Ash-Geisler f_ash@two.edu or mailed to Dr Viki Ash-Geisler, Texas Women's University, School of Library and Information Studies, P.O. Box 425438, Denton, TX 76204-5438, USA. Selected papers should be no more than 20 pages, double-spaced using a font no smaller than 12 pitch. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their proposed paper no later than February 15, 2000.
