National Association of Care Catering Conference and Exhibition 2007, 13-14 September 2007 – Hilton Birmingham Metropole

This conference and exhibition was opened by the National Association for Care Catering (NACC), the industry’s leading association representing care caterers throughout the UK.

The conference included:

Chef demonstrationsBuilding on the positive response to last year's chef demonstrations, the 2007 conference hosted a demonstration theatre where chefs tackled the challenges of catering within care services.

New products and servicesThe CaterCare exhibition ran alongside the conference – more than 50 manufacturers and service providers demonstrated the very latest food, drink, technology and equipment products ideal for use in catering establishments.

Speakers included:

Sue Hawkins – Chairman NACCPatrick Holford, Institute for Optimum NutritionPatrick Holford is one of the world’s leading authorities on new approaches to health and nutrition. He is founder of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London and heads the Food for Brain Foundation, pioneering nutritional approaches to mental health. He is also the nutritionist on GMTV and the author of numerous books on nutrition.

Ray Mitchell – Campaigns Manager, Age Concern EnglandRay outlined Age Concern’s Hungry to be Heard campaign and told delegates of the Seven Steps they can implement to help prevent malnutrition of those in their care.

Martina Watts – Nutrition Consultant and Therapist, The Health BankHow the food we eat affects our mood and how we can provide dietary resources for improving mental and emotional health.

Dr Helen Crawley – Caroline Walker TrustThe Caroline Walker Trust is putting together a new set of materials “Eating well for adults and children with learning disabilities”, due to be published in November 2007. Helen gave delegates an overview of what they can expect to see later this year.
