Obesity: The Public Health Time Bomb!

National Obesity Forum, The Royal College of Physicians, London, 15-16 October 2007

Presentations included:

  • Keynote address – Prof Philip James.

  • Tackling and preventing obesity: the mend programme – Paul Sacher.

  • NICE guidance – Can commercial dietary approaches take the pressure off the NHS? – Lyndel Costain.

  • Obesity: The case for broadening the access to effective treatment options – Dr Nick Finer.

  • Obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome – Prof Adam Balen.

  • Obesity and liver – Dr Nimanth DeAlwis.

There was also a debate on whether the government was capable of handling the obesity epidemic. The event was attended by doctors, dietitians, personal trainers, nurses and companies producing products. There was also a small exhibition of products and medications related to assisting obese individuals. The National Obesity Forum is the trading name for the charity.
