A new low VOC solvent

Keywords: Solvents, Resins

Further to our recent comments on solvents, and the interview published in the last issue with Nigel Sarginson, chairman of the European Solvents Industry Group, Chemoxy International has introduced a new solvent. It is butyl propionate, a high purity, low toxicy, low odour and low VOC solvent designed for formulating with other solvents to help improve the flash-point, biodegradability and solvency characteristics of solvent combinations.

The white liquid solvent is said to offer excellent solvency properties for nitrocellulose, natural and synthetic resins for paint and lacquer manufacture. With a flash-point of 37C, butyl propionate is an effective replacement for methyle ketone, methyl iso-butyl ketone and butyle acetate.
