Microsizing valve reduces processing costs and improves emulsion quality

Keywords: Niro, Valves, Emulsions

The NanoValve is a new microsizing valve from Niro Soavi that reportedly microsizes emulsions at much lower pressure than was ever possible before, yet achieves the same or even better emulsion quality. The reduced pressure is said to save power, lower maintenance costs and cut down noise.

According to Niro, users report better quality emulsions and energy savings of over 30 per cent after replacing a standard valve with the new NanoValve1

In a recent trial a standard valve was operating at 220 bar and creating an average globule diameter of 0.706 microns. When fitted with the Nanovalve, the same homogeniser, running at only 180 bar, produced globule diameters of just 0.605 microns.

Moreover, after testing the valve at even lower pressures (130-150 bar) it still achieved globules of just 0.675 microns.

Stability tests reportedly confirmed the excellent results of the laboratory tests performed immediately after production. Cost savings come from the lower energy consumption from working at lower pressures. However, the valve’s advanced technology is believed to improve the fluid dynamic efficiency, which reduces the wear on the microsizer’s components.

Users also report reduced noise levels because the equipment is working at a lower pressure. NanoValve can be installed on any type of microsizer, new or old. Different models are available according to the maximum capacity of the machine. If required, two NanoValve stages can be installed in series.
