Transport regulations deferred

We are informed by the British Coatings Federation (BF) that as a result of the concerns expressed by it and other trade associations, the SHE has announced that the implementation of ADR (European Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road Regulations) into the UK as domestic transport legislation, will be put back until 1st July 2003.

It had been planned to introduce the new regulations for domestic transport, from last January, aligning with the 2001 edition of ADR, with a second change to the 2003 edition only 6 months later. This delay will simplify the task that faces the industry as it will leapfrog over a number of the difficulties created by the 2001 edition which will be removed in the 2003 ADR.

The scale of the change will still be significant for many operations and to assist members in this, a preliminary BF guidance note has been sent to transport officers.
