Donaldson Membranes' technical products for multiple applications

Donaldson Membranes, experts in the manufacture of expanded microporous PTFE membranes, films and laminates, has a portfolio of products which can be tailored to meet the needs of vital applications in a cross-section of markets.

A large selection of ePTFE products can solve problems in a wide range of applications, including: healthcare; laboratory equipment; vent filter and breathers; crystal wrap and microfiltration.

Donaldson Membrane's Tetratex® ePTFE membrane filter media has a proven track record as a highly efficient and effective fabric filter media. The membrane is manufactured from 100 percent PTFE polymer resin. Tetratex is dimensionally and chemically stable in almost any environment ranging from -270ºC to +260ºC. Tetratex® Film can be treated to repel oils as well as water, using Donaldson Membranes' patented oleophobic treatment.

Whilst it is extremely water repellent, the membrane still allows air and moisture vapour to pass through. It comprises of millions of small randomly connected fibrils which create a microporous structure smaller than can be seen by the naked eye. The result is an extraordinarily hydrophobic and breathable membrane. Films range in thickness from 18 to 250m with a porosity of 80-90 percent and pore sizes of 0.05 to 7m.

Owing to their clean, non-shedding and chemically inert characteristics, Tetratex ePTFE membranes are ideal for critical medical equipment such as blood filters and face masks where total protection is needed in the most demanding conditions. For ostomy applications they are an excellent barrier to leakage yet provide ventilation and breathability, managing the build-up of gases and odour to ensure the patient's comfort and peace of mind. For dialysis applications, Tetratex membranes' chemical resistance gives protection against dirt, bacteria and blood-borne pathogens, whilst their soft, drapeable, ease of removal properties make them highly suitable for wound care.

For laboratory equipment and microfiltration involving pharmaceutical, food and sterile air, Tetratex ePTFE membranes offer vital properties – chemical inertness and resistance, non- shedding, minimal extractables, a wide operating temperature range, proven bacterial challenge, and toxicity tested to USP 23, Class VI. This allows the membranes to be used in a wide range of laboratory applications, from microbiology, sterile filtration, laboratory instruments, protein purification, sample preparation and protein removals to final filtration – in schools, university research laboratories, hospitals, food and beverage and pharmaceutical laboratories.

Tetratex ePTFE membranes' ability to repel both oil and water, whilst providing protection from organic vapours, acid gases and condensation associated with water vapour, allows them to be used as a permeable barrier for venting and breathing filters as well as for gas sensors, electronics and more.

The properties of Tetratex® Cyrstal wrap film ensures the protection of critical crystal materials employed in nuclear medicine imaging, clinical chemistry, industrial gauging and control, astronomy and space exploration.
