Purpose
This paper aims to look at the Oppenheim effect in scholarly journal publishing.
Design/methodology/approach
Discusses the quality control of refereed scholarly journals.
Findings
A key finding of this research was that editors perceived originality to be the most important factor in their assessment of manuscripts.

Provides a discussion on the quality control of scholarly journals.
