Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies.

Design/methodology/approach

This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context.

Findings

In recent years, one of the trends that has been observed in human relations research and practice is that the term “human relations” has become, well, a little old hat. There are numerous examples of companies changing the names of their departments to something else, such as “people,” to make the teams sound more relevant and employee-focused. Indeed, much academic research has also followed this trend and – this journal not withstanding – have sought to become less mechanical about the nature of what is covered, and increase the psychological aspects of what is being studied.

Practical implications

The paper provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world’s leading organizations.

Originality/value

The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent, information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
