Processed, cereal-based foods and baby foods for infants and young children

The EC has adopted Directive 1999/39/EC, which amends Directive 96/5/EC. This directive sets a maximum limit of 0.01mg/kg for individual pesticides in processed cereal-based foods and baby foods. The UK is required to introduce national measures to implement this rule by 30 June 2000. The JFSSG has issued draft regulations for consultation. The regulations would only apply to England, but similar separate legislation is being developed for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
