Abstract

The Food Safety Act 1990 contains, at Section 40 provisions allowing the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Health, the Secretaries of State for Wales and Scotland to issue codes of practice to enforcement authorities on how they shall execute and enforce the provisions of the Act. Code 16 deals with food hazard warning systems. Discusses the Code, and its operation, which codifies systems used by central government departments and sets out how local enforcement authorities should categorize hazards and the procedures they should follow in dealing with food hazards.
