Abstract
Briefly discusses foreign language publishing in Finland and describes the history of the Helsinki publishing house of Otava since its foundation in 1891. The development of the firm in relation to Finnish nationalism is described and its major publishing achievements highlighted. Its more recent history and current situation are also outlined.
