Abstract

Describes the efforts of a library service at a college of higher education to convert a full‐time library assistant post to a library traineeship. Questions raised by the process include: Should it be a graduate post? Where should the post be advertised? What kind of work could the trainee expect? Who would mentor the trainee and how would they themselves be trained? Discusses the solutions.
