Abstract

Describes a unique project operating in the north‐east of England. The aim of the project is to bring accredited learning opportunities to the population of this deprived area of the country. Outlines the origins of the project and its identifying characteristics. Also explores the development and the achievements of the project, particularly in terms of the number of people who have benefited from its work. Looks forward to possible developments and considers the personal benefits to participants, especially the project’s contribution to progression and the development of the community.
