Abstract

Purpose

The paper seeks to explore the nature of a collaborative relationship among school and academic librarians in order to enhance the information literacy skills of students as they matriculate to college.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper discusses collaboration among school librarians in Madison County, Illinois and one academic library. The major reasons for creating these partnerships and the critical success factors of the project are also discussed.

Findings

The academic library's role in facilitating collaboration may be challenging but building partnerships with local school libraries is mutually beneficial.

Originality/value

Extracts the valuable lessons learned which will help others to effectively build similar relationships between school and academic librarians.
