Abstract

Outlines the results of research into the strategic concerns of top management in mid‐ to large‐size European corporate organizations. Four key levers for the successful management of international business have been identified. It is important to: create a high quality dialogue within the top management group; reach agreement as to what sales and marketing mean for the business; handle correctly the planning and target‐setting process; manage carefully sensitive interfaces across Europe. Concludes that, although national differences in approach among European managers are highlighted, the same key levers are essential for effective business performance, irrespective of nationality.
