Abstract

Purpose

To discuss the irrelevancy of one particular favorite economic question of current business punditry.

Design/methodology/approach

Opinion column.

Findings

This column examines the question “Are we in a recession?” and points out that the question is: unanswerable until far too late; and almost always of no real use in decisionmaking in the real world.

Originality/value

Hopefully, shows in a humorous way why this obsession with the question of “recession or not” is not useful.
