Abstract

Spotlights the Brent libraries’ “Beyond the millennium project”, planning ahead for the year 2008. Outlines the multicultural nature of the borough, the political context and the library service in general. Highlights the central aim of the project ‐ to put libraries at the heart of local communities ‐ embracing the values of effective service, positive customer involvement, commitment to excellence and imagination. Anticipates that by 2008 libraries will operate seven days a week, offer wide‐ranging IT‐based services, using the most advanced technologies, and become an enabler of lifelong learning.
