Abstract

Scheduling systems can be developed to model all the significant processes in a business and desktop computers have the power to generate integrated schedules designed to realize optimized throughput. However, the step from design and development to installation and operation introduces the power of reality that will remorselessly reveal both strengths and weaknesses in the software or in the concept. Reviews ‐ from the points of view of the developers, the system drivers and a key (new) user ‐ gains and losses, issues and advantages which came to light during the first 18 months after installation of a modern scheduling system for a multinational pharmaceutical company.
