Abstract

The development of an employee development assistance programme at Ford Motor Company goes from strength to strength, with unions and management seeing great benefits to their respective organizations. Although personnel must participate in the programme in their own time, the range and variety of courses on offer – even taking shift workers into account – ensures that the programme maintains its momentum. The fact that the mix of staff unions and shopfloor unions places managers and employees together in a learning situation changes attitudes, to a degree, in the workplace.
