Abstract

It is argued that because human resource (HR) professionals are out of fashion in Australia, HR functions are being disbanded, distributed or depleted as a result of takeovers, restructuring, company financial losses and funding cuts. The attitude of a HR professional when joining an organisation is discussed, what he/she should take a careful look at within the structure, and the sort of HR professional – technician, manager and strategist – he/she can choose to be are examined.
