Abstract

In a world of ever‐increasing complexity, with expanding demands for product and service quality and reliability, the need arises for an effective and economical quality system. It is necessary to have an understanding of the principles of quality and then to apply these techniques correctly. It is a sad fact that people tend to associate the word “quality” with “inspection” and “paperwork”. This is not so. Quality is a state of mind, and its effects are present in each single activity performed in the organisation. The article outlines the main issues encountered in the development of a quality system for a company involved in mechanical engineering fabrication work.
