The European Real Estate Society (ERES) Summit in June in Bucharest saw a number of Corporate Real Estate (CRE) papers presented, and the intention is that there will be a Special Edition of the Journal in early 2015 featuring a number of the papers from the Summit. The Summit in 2015 will see ERES on the edge of Europe in Istanbul, and while that is sometime away, 24th June 2015, it is not too early to start putting a paper together for it and for Journal of Corporate Real Estate!
Rianne Appel-Meulenbroek is once again putting together the special edition together, and I would encourage all of those who attended and presented papers on CRE to contact her.
In this edition, we have five papers with some diverse themes. Two consider the issue of sustainability. Michael Voigtlander and Rosemarie Stibbe consider Corporate Sustainability in German Real Estate. Their paper suggests that while Corporate Sustainability is talked about, very few indicators are provided and compliance with reporting standards is mixed. While Sara Wilkinson’s paper looks at adapting offices to meet the challenges of the environment over the next few decades with reference to what has been happening in Melbourne and their 1,200 Buildings Programme.
The Finnish Government provide guidelines for the design of workplaces for knowledge workers, and Heidi Rasila et al. analyses and discusses five workplace concepts arising from that.
We then have two Practice Papers. One is a Paper by Rob Harris and myself that asks the question whether CRE is at a crossroads. The other which is by Douglas Gosschalk and Thomas McCarty also looks how CRE is run and the need to move into integrated and strategic alliances to get the best out of the use of the space.
This is the last edition of the Journal that Emma Steele has been the Managing Editor of. She is moving back in to journalism, and I would like to thank her for all her help in getting me settled in to the role of Editor and wish her well in her new role.
